The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has launched a new service that allows motorists to share their driving licence details quickly and securely using a QR code.
Drivers with a Driver and Vehicles account can now generate a QR code and instantly share their licence details with third parties such as car hire and insurance companies. This feature makes the process faster and more convenient than ever before.
Since most people carry their smartphones with them, the DVLA believes this system provides a simple, secure, and efficient way to confirm key details, including driving entitlements and any endorsements.
This service is available exclusively to GB photocard licence holders and works by generating a QR code on the driver’s smartphone. The code can be scanned via the redesigned Check Driving Licence page, activating the webcam on a PC or tablet to retrieve the information.
The new QR code feature is just one of the many benefits of having a Driver and Vehicles account, which also allows users to opt for vehicle tax reminders via email or text.
For those who prefer the existing method, the DVLA’s single-use check code service remains available. Drivers can generate a unique check code valid for 21 days, which can be redeemed through the Check Someone’s Driving Licence service.
